Out there!

For the past two days I’ve been home with a sick little kiddo- nothing particular serious, just a bit gross for BPS teachers to have to deal with. With a teenager in the house, it is sometimes nice to have one kid who wants to be dotted on, someone to take care of in those primal and basic ways.

And yet, I’ve hardly left my house in 32 hours. In this time, endless cups of tea were made, many an email was answered a bit too succinctly, many holiday movies watched, many a thought interrupted- IFYKYK.

As I strolled on a late night walk once I was relieved of duty, I realized just how lucky I am on normal days: I get to go to work, think, create, make things, hold space for you all to explore your own inner world. I get to clean that space, arrange that space, strategize on process, materials, clay bodies, tools, glazes- keep this ship afloat.

It’s all so fun, out there in the world. You know, doing things: seeing people walking around, shopping, buying an empanada or coffee, perusing the thrift shops, take a yoga class- all the things that make up a life.

It’s great to be a part of “out there!”

Sure sure, making art and holding this space isn’t all fun and games- there’s plenty of heartbreak and failed attempts. But really, who are we kidding? Failures and all, it’s fun as heck to go out into the village, take an art class, get hands dirty with paints, pastels, clay- any number of materials. It’s fabulous to see what we can do, to try something new, to feel expansive as we stretch towards limits we never before dreamt of pushing.

We hope that in 2023, you’ll come out into the village, take a class, meet other community members, and expand your creativity to new boundaries.
