About us

This space is for the community to explore new avenues of expression and fulfill the inner need of all us to play, create, and grow.

Our mission is to provide a creative space within the village for artists of all ages, backgrounds, and identities. As community residents, we are deeply committed to creating an artistic space that welcomes all skill levels and where everyone in the community feels welcome and free to explore their creative side through a variety of mediums. We are flexible so if you have a suggested class or other idea you’d like us to incorporate, let us know!

We aim for accessibility for all residents, which is why we offer a robust scholarship program, offering over $5000 in scholarships each year. See our class pages for more information on how to request a scholarship.

Gena at Create: Art in the Community

Create is owned by Roslindale/Boston resident and artist Gena Mavuli. She’s most at home with her hands deep in clay or stoking a kiln fire deep into the night. Her ceramics practice, and her life practice, is all about experience and experimentation which is evident in the range of her work. She holds this space for members of her community to explore with freedom and joy, with an eye on the experience more than results. You can read more and see her work here.

Refund Policy

Our policies strive for a balance in reasonable planning options for caregivers (we’re parents also!), ensuring our studio is well prepared for all incoming students, supporting our staff with reliable scheduling, and keeping our administrative burden as low as possible.

We appreciate your support of what we’re reaching for here at Create.

Sept- June Youth & All Adult Class refunds:

  • If a refund is requested with 30+ days advance notice of the class start date, we will refund all but a $50 administrative fee.

  • With less than 30 days notice, we can offer a class credit for 50% of the class monetary value.

  • With less than two weeks notice, no refund nor class credit is available.

  • On a case-by-case basis, we may choose to offer refunds when a student’s seat is able to be used by another student. If caregivers find a replacement, this option is increasingly possible. Please contact us to discuss. In this case a $50 administrative fee will be charged.
